Chapter 7
Andrés
âYou can stay here, big brother,â Valentina said, gesturing for me to take Samantha into one of the guest rooms in her sprawling home. âIâll send someone out to get fresh clothes for both of you. Will you join us for dinner tonight?â
âArenât you hosting a rehearsal dinner?â Samantha interjected, pausing at my side.
Valentinaâs glossy black hair swayed around her face as she shook her head. âIâm canceling it. Iâd rather have dinner with my family. Adrián and I donât need to rehearse our wedding. Itâs not my first time getting married, and Iâm sure he can figure out what to do.â
A shadow passed over her eyes at the mention of her first marriage, but her flippant tone indicated that sheâd prefer to joke about the situation than dwell on her true feelings. I wanted to know what had happened to my little sister, but I didnât feel like pressing for details, either. Valentina might have been in love with Adrián RodrÃguez since she was a teenager, but sheâd been forced to marry another man. I was all too familiar with the ugliest parts of our criminal underworld, and I could easily guess what had happened to Valentina.
For the first time, I registered gratitude that she was with Adrián. He claimed heâd always loved her and that he would protect her. Whatever sheâd been through in the past, it was clear now that Adrián would slaughter anyone who tried to harm her. I might not like that she was marrying a drug lord, but there were advantages to the absolute devotion of a sadistic madman. No one would ever hurt my sister again.
âSo, youâll come to dinner?â Valentina prompted. âOur chef can put something together in a couple hours. Itâll just be the four of us in the dining room, so we donât need to worry about leaving the grounds. I know Samantha can cover your tracks, but Iâd rather not go out in public more than absolutely necessary.â
âGood call,â Samantha approved. âWeâd love to have dinner with you and Adrián. Wouldnât we, Andrés?â She poked her elbow into my side, urging me to agree.
âYes,â I replied. âBut if you wouldnât mind, I need to talk to my wife about everything thatâs happened today. Privately.â
Samantha instantly caught the low threat in my tone. Sheâd let her mouth run away with her when sheâd spoken to RodrÃguez. Just because everything had worked out peacefully didnât mean she wasnât going to be punished for putting herself at risk. I needed to feel her flesh heat beneath my harsh hands, needed to brand every inch of her body with my touch. After almost losing her today, my gut burned with the impulse to dominate her until she softened and submitted. I needed to hear her call me Master and promise that she belonged to me, now and forever.
âUm, thatâs okay,â Samantha said, her voice higher than usual. âWe should all keep hanging out before dinner. I mean, I donât need to change clothes or anything, if weâre just eating at the house.
